Andrea Allen is an ensemble member and playwright with DXM, as well as the Director of Education at Seattle Repertory Theatre. Andrea has created numerous educational programs for Seattle Rep including the Playwriting Project in which students write 10-minute plays which are produced at the theatre and a teacher professional development workshop, Bringing Theatre into the Classroom, that uses theatrical techniques to teach various curriculum areas. From its inception four years ago, Andrea has been actively involved in the creation and development of The Center School, a public, arts-focused high school on the Seattle Center campus. She teaches a course entitled 'Starting Your Own Fringe Theatre' at the school, as well as writing an adaptation each year for the Drama Intensive project. Her plays for students include Lost, based on Grimms' Hansel and Gretel, and My Life as a Greek Tragedy based on Euripides' Orestes. My Life… will soon be published by The Wright Press. As a theatre artist in Seattle, Andrea has also been a playwright for the 14/48 Theatre Festival, and collaborated on a number of plays for Annex Theatre as a director, writer, dramaturg, and occasional-actor. Andrea was a company member at Annex for more than 10 years, serving as the Artistic Director for two years. A graduate of Yale University with a degree in Women's Studies, she has an M.A. in education from Antioch University. Andrea currently serves as the board president of ArtsEdWashington (Washington Alliance for Arts Education), a board member for Washington Alliance for Theatre Education, and an advisory board member for KCTS public television station.
